| OZ LITES HISTORY | |||||
The
“OZ LITES 1.6 Litre Boating Register” was initially formed
in 1971 by Mr.
Ron Haylock under the banner of “The
Australian Formula Ford Register (Boating)”.
This class was created and sponsored by the Victorian Speed Boat Club in conjunction with the Ford Motor Company to provide a reliable, low cost class of racing. Using the same formula that has proved so successful in car racing, the class was based on the 160Occ Cortina GT engine with modifications fairly restricted. In the early 90’s with spare parts for the Ford engines becoming scarce, the register decided to pursue a new power plant. It was at this time the Toyota 4AGE Twin Overhead Cam engine was introduced. The power produced from the stock Toyota engine is sufficient to provide speeds in excess of 80 to 100mph, which in lumpy race water can be described at the very least ‘interesting’. The class caters for almost anyone who is interested in circuit boat racing. As different as the drivers are from each other so to are the hull designs, ranging from the original Ron Haylock timber design through to the latest designed fibreglass hulls based on the American designs. The class is promoted and controlled by the “OZ LITES 1.6 Litre Boating Register”. The register is based in Victoria but has members throughout Australia. Any enquiries should be made
